Sofia Coppola’s Marie Antoinette
Marie Antoinette was a great film that we watched in class and I had fun watching it. Marie Antoinette is an Austrian women who turns into a French queen. The dresses were the thing that stood out to me the most because the colors were so vivid that it stood out to me. All the women had stunning dresses throughout the whole movie and whenever there was a big event, everyone had a vibrant color on. One of the most interesting things to me was the dynamic of the 2 men in her life, King Louis XV of France and Axel Fersen. Marie comes over to marry King Louis XV but the marriage is not what she thought it was going to be. King Louis does not show her love and they never do anything in the bed room. Marie's brother, Joseph II, came to visit and told King Louis that he has to do stuff in the bedroom. Marie and King Louis make love and have a baby together. But after that is when Axel Fersen comes into the picture. Marie and Axel meet at a party but nothing comes up until they see each other years later where they hit it off. The 2 start to have an affair where they make love multiple times. The aspect of multiple men was very interesting to me and showed the culture back then where you marry someone due to what your family wants and not you. Marie did not want to marry this man due to the fact, she did not even know who he was. That was the culture back then and this film did a good job of showing that. When she meets Axel, it is all game for her and she can not wait to get her hands on him. This 2 men dynamic for Marie was very interesting to me and it was a key theme throughout the whole movie.
